![]() ![]() While his dad, Ted Glover, worked as a business man who traveled a lot and was able to keep them living quite well, Steve-O and his big sister Cindy stayed with their mother who, just as most of her family did, drank quite a lot. Steve-O had a life that was somewhere between great and just horrible. Had it not been for the people who cared for him he probably wouldn’t be here now. ![]() They even almost got Steve-O to kill himself with some crazy stunt. Even as he got older drugs played a major role in his life. Plain and simple, drugs are bad and we all know it. Not to mention the countless times he urinated in his old girlfriend’s bed after crashing from too much weed and beer. His need to get high was so strong that he got scammed by what he thought was a friend, that friend got some more guys, and beat the rest of his money out of him. For example, when Steve-O was just a young man with a friend after being paid to test drugs. Throughout his life he’s ran into so much trouble, drugs always having played some part in it. I’d say that throughout Professional idiot it was obvious that drugs played a huge part in Steve-O’s life, and that they didn’t exactly have a positive effect on him. It was like he was the protagonist and the world itself was the antagonist. While I knew Steve-O must have been messed up a little, I never knew about all the things that he’d went through as a kid, teen, and then as an adult. In this review I’d like to talk about the theme, people, and the setting of Steve-O Professional idiot. Professional idiot was a great book, though it was a bit of a tough one, too. Steve-O is someone we’ve all seen do the dumb, painful, and downright dangerous things that no one else would do in Jackass. Professional Idiot recounts the lunacy, the debauchery, the stunts, the drug addiction, and the path to recovery with bravado, humor, and heart. ![]() Today he has been clean and sober for more than three years. Only an intervention and a visit to a psychiatric ward saved his life. He developed a crippling addiction to drugs and alcohol, and an obsession with his own celebrity that proved nearly as dangerous. As the stunts got crazier, his life kept place. Whether it was stapling his nutsack to his leg or diving into a pool full of elephant crap, almost nothing was out of bounds. From his early days videotaping crazy skateboard stunts to starring in the Jackass movies, there was little that Stephen “Steve-O” Glover wouldn’t do. ![]()
